Weekly Report #05 Happy Labor Day, Efficiency First Not Applicable in the Creative Industry

This has been a week of not being able to wake up. Since I started working, I haven't had to wake up before nine o'clock, and I haven't punched in either. However, the rules of the new company are quite "strict", with a strict nine-to-six schedule. It's a bit of a challenge to my biological habits, but because it's close to home, it's still acceptable.

Personal Life:

  1. Every time I start a new job, I always experience some discomfort, such as not feeling thirsty or having no appetite. This week, I basically relied on convenience stores for breakfast and lunch (of course, the main reason is that I had my wisdom teeth removed and couldn't eat other food).
  2. I got my stitches removed yesterday, and the doctor said I can eat spicy food now. I'm so happy. I thought I would have to abstain from spicy food for the May Day holiday, and that would be really painful.
  3. I hope I can successfully get a train ticket and go home to have a barbecue and enjoy the delicious food my dad makes. I am grateful to the kind person who cancels their ticket, the train steward, 12306, and all the staff of the railway department.
  4. Even though it's almost May, the weather in Beijing is still quite unpredictable. There's a big temperature difference, and with the sandstorms blowing in from Outer Mongolia, every day is a dusty day.
  5. After humans reach adulthood, their complete perception of time should be from nine in the morning to twelve noon. Maybe it's because I used to start work late in the morning, so I feel a bit idle at noon in the office, and I feel like the company is just preparing for lunch. The main output time is in the afternoon and evening. But now, I start work at nine o'clock, and we have a morning meeting at nine-thirty. Every time I think it's already eleven o'clock, but when I look at the time, it's only ten o'clock. Is there a galaxy between nine o'clock and ten o'clock? I think this can be listed as one of the top ten mysteries.
  6. "The Outcast" Season 6 is truly a masterpiece of Chinese animation. This season has raised the overall level, and I have to watch each episode twice to discover the details. Yesterday, I watched the tenth episode, "The End," and the first time I watched it, I thought the plot was inexplicable. How could the setup collapse after such a long build-up? The Outcast is dead, and Yue Lido has obtained the sixteen states of Yan Yun, and Li Siyuan has proclaimed himself emperor. But on the day of the coronation ceremony, it was Zhang Zifan who proclaimed himself emperor. I even thought I had skipped an episode and watched it again to find some details. The anime used flashbacks to reveal the ending directly, and the process in between will be revealed later. Li Xingyun and Zhang Zifan worked together to set up a scheme, and The Outcast didn't actually die, they were just acting for Yue Lido. But why did Zhang Zifan proclaim himself emperor using Li Siyuan's name? That means a lot happened in the past half month, and it's possible that Li Siyuan is also involved (although this possibility is very low). Watching their growth all the way is quite emotional. From now on, there is no Li Xingyun or Zhang Zifan, only the handsome and bad Li Siyuan.
  7. I just got a posture correction cushion, I don't know if it will be useful.

Thoughts:

  1. I didn't have much time to read this week. Most of my energy was focused on getting familiar with my work. It's a completely different type of business sector compared to before. Joining this company shattered my fantasy about this industry. I thought it was a technical job, but it turned out to be a manual labor job, which really surprised me. But because it's a field I haven't had specific exposure to, it still requires further observation.
  2. The reason the company hired me was to expand their business, but based on my current exposure, it's a different logic from what I'm good at. We used to provide solutions from a creative perspective. But now, the company mainly focuses on data, and while there is still logic involved, it's mostly replicable thinking with no originality. If I had to do what they are currently doing, I wouldn't be able to continue. It would be an insult to my profession, and besides putting myself in a state of growth inertia, it wouldn't be helpful at all. Although work is about looking at the money, for me, the ability to learn is more important. At our age, our learning ability has already declined, and if we don't expose ourselves to challenging work and things, we will end up lying in our comfort zone sooner or later. So, we must strive to improve our ROI before the age of 30.
  3. As mentioned earlier, our previous work was mainly focused on creativity, which means it was unstable and not highly replicable. It was difficult for us to efficiently produce in large quantities. But now, the company's corporate culture is focused on efficiency. How much do they care about it? Every morning, we have to discuss our work plan for the day, report our progress in the afternoon, and do a work summary every evening. This formalized efficiency can be excessive. If we were to use our previous work content, a work report might be a brainstorming session for a day, but for the boss, it would mean we didn't do anything. So, the concept of efficiency first represents different things in different industries. This is the current difficulty and area that needs to be adjusted in my work.

Conclusion:
We are welcoming the first long holiday of the year, so let's be happy! I wish everyone a happy May Day, enjoy good food, drinks, have fun, and take a good rest!
